Contemporary Cape Dorset Drawings
Whether it is the quietly introspective images of Tim Pitsiulak, the often mysterious drawings of Qavavau Manumie, the mischievous and bold work of Ningiukulu Teevee, or Shuvinai Ashoona's meticulously detailed renderings, the drawings being produced in the Cape Dorset Graphic Studio display a contemporary view of the world that is deeply rooted in Inuit history, legends and environment. The Inuit Gallery is pleased to present a new collection of drawings by these four immensely talented artists. Historically the drawings formed the basis of images for the annual print collections, but in recent years there has been a growing recognition of drawing as a worthy, stand-alone art form. Drawings provide a more immediate access to the artist's thoughts and process, and often possess a particular freshness and spontaneity.
