We are proud to showcase a collection of dynamic artworks by emerging artists from the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. Featuring finely carved ladles, bowls, and both wall-mounted and free-standing masks, this exhibition highlights the exceptional creativity and craftsmanship of a new generation of artists.

Located in Terrace, British Columbia, the Freda Diesing School plays a vital role in sustaining and revitalizing the traditions of Northwest Coast art. Established in 2006 and named in honour of Haida master carver Freda Diesing—a pioneering artist whose work was central to the resurgence of Indigenous art in Canada—the school offers an immersive education rooted in both traditional and contemporary practices. Students engage deeply with cultural heritage through carving, painting, and design under the guidance of accomplished Indigenous artists and knowledge keepers.

The school was founded by celebrated artists and mentors Dempsey Bob and his nephews Ken McNeil and Stan Bevan, whose leadership and artistic excellence have shaped a nurturing environment centered on cultural identity, community, and mastery of the form. Their influence continues to inspire students and uphold the integrity of Northwest Coast artistic traditions.

Today, the school’s legacy is carried forward by instructors such as Haisla artist Nathan Wilson and Nisga'a artist Nakkita Trimble, who mentor and guide students with dedication and skill. This exhibition offers just a glimpse into the impressive work being created at the Freda Diesing School. We are incredibly excited to follow the journeys of these talented artists and see what the future holds.
