Carved from yellow cedar, Calvin Morberg’s Eagles Panel draws inspiration from the ancient Tlingit dance screen designs of the Klukwan Whale House in southern Alaska. These monumental screens, used to partition clan houses during ceremonies, convey stories of lineage and identity through bold formline, symmetry, and powerful crest imagery.

In this work, Morberg translates that tradition into panel form: two Eagles face one another in profile, their presence anchored by a central Chilkat face above. Primary formline painted in deep black with accents of red and light blue, the design embodies both the dignity of Eagle crest imagery and the enduring vitality of Tlingit visual traditions.
