Germaine Arnaktauyok

September 9 - 30

We are pleased to present a selection of remarkable prints and an original drawing by Germaine Arnaktauyok, one of today's most celebrated Inuit artists. Known for her refined draftsmanship and deeply narrative imagery, Arnaktauyok has spent decades bringing Inuit stories, traditions, and cosmologies to life through her art.

This collection spans etchings, lithographs, and an ink drawing from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s, offering a window into some of Arnaktauyok’s most enduring themes. Her works illuminate the richness of Inuit oral history, depicting powerful figures such as Sedna the Sea Goddess, endearing scenes of mothers and children, and striking interpretations of how natural phenomena like night and day came into being. Each work demonstrates Arnaktauyok's ability to merge fine detail with profound storytelling, creating imagery that resonates far beyond its surface beauty.

In 2021, Arnaktauyok was recognized with the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts, affirming her place among Canada’s most influential artists. Our gallery has long admired and supported her contributions, having presented a solo exhibition of her prints and drawings in 2008, and it is with great excitement that we once again bring her work to our friends and collectors.
