Germaine Arnaktauyok Solo Exhibition
The Inuit Gallery is pleased to present an exclusive collection of drawings by the renowned Inuit artist Germaine Arnaktauyok who currently makes her home in Yellowknife in the Western Arctic. Painstakingly created and collected over the past several years these are magnificent examples of Germaine’s artistry.
Inuit art lovers, as well as collectors enamoured of print making, have been aware of her many creations as they were exhibited and sold widely in Canada as well as around the world. What is less well known is that the basis for Germaine’s prints are meticulous drawings which she creates with pen, coloured pencil and other media. Depicting the traditional Inuit stories and legends that Germaine grew up with, they share a timeless quality of the stories themselves. Her sensitive portrayals of family life, particularly the bond between mother and child, are powerfully evocative and in the last several years we have seen her move into landscape imagery, though on an intimate scale.
The gallery is particularly pleased to have worked with Germaine to create an exclusive image in print which accompanies this exhibition of drawings. And in addition, we have collected a number of prints from editions that have been sold out and thus presents an opportunity for collectors to obtain one of her past treasures.
Please join with us in celebrating the work of this unique artist.
The artist will be in attendance at the opening reception on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 2 – 4 pm at the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver. All are welcome.
