Kinngait (Cape Dorset) Sculpture
August 14 - September 4
Since its introduction into the global art scene in the 1950s, the small community of Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, has built one of the most active artist co-operatives in the Arctic. With so many artists working in such close proximity, the web of artistic influence has continually inspired thrilling new styles and ways of exploring the vivid mythology, culture and natural surroundings of the Inuit.
This collection of sculpture highlights that ingenuity and appeal; you’ll see everything from mirrored-body polar bears to two people tenderly held in the palm of a hand, with no shortage of joyful animals, compelling transformations and more to draw the mind into the captivating imagery of life in the Canadian Arctic.
