Small Treasures

SMALL TREASURES

The Inuit Gallery of Vancouver is pleased to open our 6th Annual Small Treasures exhibition of Inuit Art on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., Vancouver time.

This perennially popular event showcases works on a more intimate scale, many of them small enough to fit in the palm of one hand.

This year, we have assembled the largest body of small sculptures ever and, at well over 100 pieces, there is something for every budget and taste.

Included in this collection is the small figure of a woman by Elizabeth Nutaraluk Aulatjut, carved by this remarkable artist in the early 1970’s.  Another carving of a similar vintage is the figure by the renowned John Kavik.  Other highlights from these small scale works include two classic igloo sculptures with their removable tops, revealing domestic interiors.  One in particular, is the smallest we have ever been privileged to offer.

In addition to an eclectic range of older sculptures, we are delighted to present work by the current generation of artists, as well.  Examples of these include charming birds by Napatchie Sharky, and the deadly serious “Smoking Gun” by Jamesie Pitseolak.

All sculptures will be available to view on our website in mid-January and will be available for purchase at 10:00 a.m., Vancouver time, Saturday, January 24th.

Please note that, due to international export regulations, ivory items cannot be shipped internationally.
