Once there existed a powerful Shaman named Xá:ls who had the power to transform people into any number of things, including animals and stones. Xá:ls came across a young girl throwing rocks into a small pool. This girl was a joyous creature to behold, with her youthful energy and positive spirit. Xá:ls was so taken with her that he decided he would transform her into a ladybug, the symbol of good fortune. He placed the stones she threw on her back and painted her red for protection. Marston’s Ladybug Mask combines smooth yellow cedar with luminous black onyx accents to evoke the girl’s youthful complexion and the stones that she threw long ago.
