Hollie was born in 1963 in Terrace, British Columbia. She is a member of the Haisla Nation. The Killer Whale, revered for its great strength and skill as a hunter, is her family crest. Hollie’s initial interest in art began at an early age. She moved to Vancouver in 1985 and began her career as a photographer working for the First Nations newspaper Kahtou. Hollie continued to define her unique vision not only through the medium of photography, but later in the graphic arts and currently through her jewelry.
Hollie has a love of contemporary design and jewelry which she combines with her knowledge of traditional imagery and techniques. While the beauty of her designs is readily apparent, closer inspection reveals her immense technical skill and craftsmanship. She constantly challenges herself to try new things and improve her work. She has mastered design and engraving techniques such as the intricate cross-hatching that forms the ground against which main figures such as wolf, hummingbird and raven are set. Over the years, Hollie's work has been proudly added to numerous Northwest Coast collections around the world.
