Water and Light - Jennifer Walden
March 25 - April 14
Imagine a ripple on the surface of a pond as it rolls, cresting silver and gold and then scattering into diamonds by the wings of waterfowl as they come in to land. Jennifer is engrossed by scenes such as this, by the drama that a single beam of light on water can give the most innocuous of moments; with this new collection, she aims to pull you in to the captivating glitter of water and light.
Jennifer has long studied the play of light in the scenes of the North she illustrates, using a textured surface on her canvases to capture the depth of her environment and spotlight the wildlife she depicts. This collection includes works that explore the experience of observing the refraction of light in addition to the visual perception – 'Ducks at Dusk' and 'Tangible Light' refer to the abstracting qualities of a setting sun on the water and the warmth that exudes from such visual distortions, whereas 'Cranes' and 'Catch Of The Day' illuminate animals in the sparkling playground of their habitats. A number of landscapes, as well, pay homage to the breathtaking landscapes surrounding her home in Yellowknife as they change from sunshine to snow – as she says, this collection is 'an exploration of light reacting with water in its various forms'.
All works are available immediately.
