Alice Akkammak
(1940 – Present)
Alice (Sakitnak) Akkammak is a senior carver from Arviat, Nunavut. Both her husband, Johnathon, and her daughter Rhoda Eegie Kowgayuk, are also artists. Alice often works in the regional style, which emphasizes sharply incised lines and strong, simple forms that emphasize the stone. She often carves small figurative sculptures from the local hard, grey basalt and adorns them with bright and colourful beads.
