(1956 - 2018)

Born in 1956, Ashevak Tunnillie is a well-known carver from Cape Dorset. Ashevak’s father, Qavaroak Tunnillie, was a master carver whose style greatly influenced the work of his son. Ashevak’s work embraces a fluid sense of movement and round, curvaceous forms. He prefers carving large, powerful polar bears, distinguished by their broad stance and strong, tapered faces. Ashevak’s carvings have been included in a number of exhibitions both domestically and internationally since 1983.
