Maynard Johnny Jr.
(1973 – Present, Coast Salish-Kwagiulth)
Born in 1973 in Campbell River, B.C., Maynard demonstrated his interest in art at a young age. He is of both Kwagiulth and Coast Salish descent and he has lived in both Canada and the United States. This cross-cultural influence often inspires his work, which demonstrates a unique and decidedly contemporary vision of many traditional legends and histories. A self-taught artist, Maynard credits Robert Davidson, Art Thompson, and Mark Henderson amongst his idols. Although Maynard is known primarily for his prints, he also works with wood and precious metals.
