(1944 – 1976, Holman, also Coppermine)

The late Patrick Akovak worked both in the graphic arts as well as sculpture. Based in Ulukhaktok (formerly Holman), Patrick’s images were included in several print collections since 1966. He also began exhibiting both in Canada and the United States in the late sixties. Although Patrick had a brief career, cut short by his untimely death in 1976 at the age of 32, his work continues to be exhibited and can now be found in several prominent collections, including the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec. Patrick’s sister, Mona Ohoveluk, is an active carver, printmaker, and crafts artist who continues working today.
