Serpentine

This charismatic falcon sculpture, carved in dark greenish brown serpentine by legendary artist Kenojuak Ashevak, embodies the fluid grace and bold clarity that define her distinctive visual language. With wings dramatically flared and streamlined along its body, the bird’s rounded form feels both grounded and soaring. Its large, smooth head, parted beak, and watchful almond-shaped eyes convey both presence and spirit, while rounded, stylized talons tucked beneath its body echo the harmonious curves that flow throughout the piece. Ashevak, internationally celebrated for her transformative role in Inuit art, infuses this sculpture with the same simplicity, strength, and elegance that earned her global acclaim and a lasting place in the history of Canadian art.
