Qamani'tuaq (Baker Lake)
Stone
14" x 12" x 7"

This endearing stone sculpture by Qamani’tuaq-based artist Thomas Sivuraq presents a stylized vision of companionship and stillness. Carved from dark basalt local to the artist’s region, the work depicts a seated Inuk man cradling a large dog in his lap, their forms united in a serene, sculptural embrace. Smooth and rounded, the figures are rendered with a striking simplicity—arms, legs, facial features and snout flowing into one another through curving, elemental lines. The composition rises into a broad, pyramidal silhouette, anchored by a sweeping backing that suggests a protective rock. Both intimate and monumental, the piece radiates a sense of quiet strength and enduring bond between human and animal.
