Ammolite is an opal-like organic gemstone found primarily along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of North America. This Raven is painted in all the colours found in various specimens of AMMOLITE. Ammolite is made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, which in turn are composed of various minerals. The painting speaks to the Raven's undying attraction to beautiful objects, shiny materials and curious gems. It is an ode to my godmother, Carmen Desautels, (my mother's sister) who, like myself, appreciates beautiful organic gems - just like the Raven.
