At one time when Curley worked along the DEW Line, he flew over the ice floe edge in a helicopter. When he looked down he saw a mother polar bear and her cub crossing the ice floe.

The mother bear teaches her cub how to hunt so that the next generation will know how to provide for themselves once they are grown and can, in turn, pass that knowledge along to their young ones.
