(1963 – Present, Haida)

Haida artist and jeweller James Adkins has been carving since 1993, having been greatly influenced by his brother Alvin Adkins. James also credits his mother, Margaret Adkins, and renowned Tahltan-Tlingit artist Dempsey Bob as his artistic idols. He is primarily known for his jewellery, having collaborated with Vancouver designer Jason Dussault on an exclusive line of jewellery that combined Haida imagery with pop-culture aesthetics. James’ crests are Raven, Bear, and Killerwhale, and he often creates his own engraving tools. His work is characterized by its heavy gauge and bold, precise formlines.
