Tim Boyko
(1960 – Present, Haida)
Haida artist Tim Boyko was born in 1960 on Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands). He first began carving at the age of 14, working primarily with the region’s signature black argillite stone. In the years since, Tim has expanded his repertoire to include jewelry design and wood carving. He has apprenticed with celebrated artists including master carver Bill Reid, argillite carver Alfie Collinson, and Morris White. Tim has worked on a number of important commissions over the years, including a Sgaang Gwaii Pole at Qay’llnagaay, a small totem pole for the Skidegate Elementary School, and a personal totem pole for acclaimed British artist Damien Hirst. Today Tim continues to work in both wood and silver in his hometown of Skidegate.
